LA's New Rules For Adult Films
In what can only be described as a major move by the city council for the adult film industry, Los Angeles have voted 10-0 in favour of modifying the law for condom use in these films. Now, any adult film that's wanting to acquire a permit need to make sure that they use condoms on the film set. Anyone who's found to be breaking this rule will have their permit revoked and will be fined.
According to the city council, this change has been brought in for two causes. The most essential reason is to quit the spread of STD's on adult film sets in the region. Nevertheless, the other reason is to set a good example for other city councils. Los Angeles is hoping that they can be the first city council to 'start a trend' and that others will follow suit, until finally it becomes national law.
Even though the final say on this modification was implemented by the city council, the AIDS Health Care Foundation has been attempting to obtain this change issued for a long-term. Brian Chase of this foundation said that making this change was "common sense" and that it would help "deal with the spread of std's."
The activists that have been trying to get this changed to the law have stated that this has been a concern for years now. They went onto say that STD's have been spread on these film sets because the directors didn't want to use the safest durex condoms because they believed that this is something their viewers did not wish to see in their movies.
When the AIM Medical Clinic was closed down a year ago in Los Angeles, numerous activists truly pressed for this change, and they have lastly got what they have wished for. Their argument was that there are now fewer places to get tested in the city so more precautions should be taken.
However, you'll find people that do not think this can make any difference. Some think that this will just push the majority of film sets 'underground'. The law says that inspectors only come to check to see if there is an issue if a complaint is filed, which would mean that somebody on their own set would have to issue a complaint, which is unlikely to take place on an underground set.

Diane Duke from the Free Speech Coalition stated that this legislation has come up to be voted on "several times", and it has failed every time. If this change affects the spread of STD's in the regional area or not only time will tell.
