This is really a decision that if you engage your brain it just does not make any sense to continue with your smoking habit at all. I did not think I would be able to break my smoking addiction. It seemed like I was always waiting until the stress in my life was at a minimum to begin to quit and of course that just never seemed to happen. I used my smoking as an anxiety reliever and I just didn't know what to replace it with. I was leery of gaining weight and it seemed like every time I stopped smoking or even attempted smoking control, I replaced my smoking with eating and as soon as I saw a weight increase over five pound I was once again smoking.
It wasn't easy but I started some smoking control by replacing other activities and habits for times when I would usually smoke. When I decided that I had to stop the smoking habit I started with a list of pros and cons for my determination to smoke or to stop. In other words what I was getting out of smoking and then the cons to keeping my smoking habit. Of course the pros far outweighed the cons. The health and financial costs of a smoking addiction makes the decision to continue on one you cant really justify in any sense except for the fact that as a smoker this is a habit that you love.
After I made my list I hung this list up on my shower mirror and also on my bedroom door. I wanted each day to see my motivation for changing my behavior this aided a lot since quitting smoking is a decision one has to renew everyday. Whenever you stop smoking you have to presume there will be times when you will slip but in the times past that I backslid, I just accepted failure and started smoking full steam ahead. This time if I slipped and bought a pack of cigarettes or smoked one I begged from a friend I allowed myself forgiveness for not being perfect and started right back up.
Whenever I saw the scales go up I made sure to workout more and not to replace eating with smoking. I also rewarded myself by pampering myself with a little something I normally would not do for myself. In the event I pay attention to careful smoking control my cigarette use always goes down. I shall not say that I do not think about smoking from time to time and probably always will but I always remind myself that what you save is both money and health. Your clothes do not smell like smoke your hair does not reek of smoke and you can taste the food you eat. You can also put the money you would have used for buying cigarettes into a saving account and watch it grow.
