In the 1930's, Epiphone seemed to be one of the only manufacturers to take jazz music seriously and they launched the Sheraton, a hollowbody f-hole guitar which allowed players to play as loudly as they wanted without the feedback they were obtaining with other guitars. Eventually the original Epiphone Sheraton guitar was supplanted in popularity by the Gibson ES-355 which was as well released in 1930, although there were many popular jazz guitarists who still sang it's praises. But the Sheraton was eventually discontinued in 1970 only to be introduced again in the late '80s. The Epiphone Sheraton II was introduced in 1994 as a less costly model that would interest more people. And finally, the Elitist line was born in 2003 as a middle of the road offering that could appeal to both the price conscious and the costly Gibson lovers.
Every guitar manufacturer has a semi-hollowbody model available nowadays but you can't beat the classic body style of the Sheraton. And the Elitist version takes style and quality to new heights. It's definitely an instrument made for the professional guitarist.
You will see blues and rock players with a number of semi-hollowbodies but the Epiphone Elitist Sheraton guitar seems designed for jazz. In fact the abalone and mother-of-pearl inlays alone appear to scream "You MUST play JAZZ!"
